Scott R. Mote, J.D. Exec. Director, Ohio Lawyers Assistance Program. Mr. Mote will discuss the legal profession’s response to substance abuse, chemical dependency and mental health concerns in Ohio.
Alvin Mathews is a member of the Bricker & Eckler litigation group. He is a former assistant disciplinary counsel. He spends a great deal of time providing preventive consultation and advisory opinions to Ohio lawyers, including solo practitioners, law firms, in-house counsel and governmental lawyers on legal ethics issues, and defending of lawyer discipline complaints.
The ethics presentation includes a discussion of (1) competence, diligence and communication; (2) conflicts and confidentiality; (3) agreements, fees and trust accounts; (4) supervision, UPL and multijurisdictional practice; (5) advertising; (6) duty to report misconduct; and (7) practical considerations.
Harold Paddock, Esq. is a mediator and former Franklin County Common Pleas Court Magistrate. Mr. Paddock will discuss professionalism issues in the context of “Game Theory.” The purpose of the presentation will be to acquaint the practicing lawyer with this intellectual tool to give him or her a broader perspective on their own circumstances, and that of society in general, and to the point to possibly better ways to view cooperation and professionalism.
